Your strong conviction in the Salvation story can only get stronger, it can't reach a limit. That's quite amazing, thinking about it.
Church was amazing today.
It was the grand finale of the teaching series colors of Grace.
This is was an exposé on How Joseph was somewhat a type of Jesus.
When we study the lives of these 2 personalities, we see several similarities, this also emphasizes the fact that:
- The Old Testament is the New Testament revealed.
- The entire bible is all about Jesus and his Salvation work.
God knows the end from the beginning and He knows the beginning from the end and so with the life of Joseph, he shows us some similitude of what to expect in the life of Jesus.
- Jesus, just like Joseph was the beloved of his Father. Jacob gave Joseph a Coat of Many Colours. God spoke from the skies and sent a dove during Jesus' baptism to tell everyone "This is my beloved son..."
- Joseph had 12 brothers. Jesus had 12 Disciples.
- Judah, one of Joseph's brothers suggested selling him to Slavery. Judas Iscariot, one of Jesus' disciples sold Jesus to the Chief priest. Both names have the same root. They were both sold for 20 and 30 pieces of silver respectively.
- They both had an unfair trial. Joseph with Potiphar's Wife's case and Jesus with Pontius Pilate
- They were both stripped off their robes. Joseph on his way to slavery and Jesus on his way to be crucified.
Of all the similarities, the biggest one is the fact that the supposed enemies of both Joseph and Jesus were trying to stop God's plan, but they unknowingly facilitated the fulfillment of prophecy.
Both Jesus and Joseph made similar statements that affirmed this.
Jesus said "Forgive them for they don't know what they are doing"
Joseph said "You meant it for evil, but God meant it for good"
This challenges our perspective of power. It's the paradox of the Gospel if you have not realized it. Life is replete with this reflection. God uses the foolish things of the world to confound the wise.
It is why some people consider the preaching of the Gospel foolish.
For the message of the cross is foolishness to those who are perishing, but to us who are being saved, it is the power of God - 1Cor 1v18.
How does one have eternal life by someone dying? How do you save your life by losing it?
Really sounds foolish to the common man, but for us who believe, that's power right there.
Christianity is a miracle of changed desires.
